Sri Lanka's Central Bank (CB) is expected to announce an increase in interest rates later tonight (Wednesday) stemming from the recent hike in US interest rates.
The CB said in a statement that Governor Arjuna Mahendran would also discuss a ‘quarterly review of the economy” at a media conference at 10 am on Thursday at the bank headquarters in Fort.
The bank’s Monetary Board was meeting today to review trends in December and was thereafter expected to announce its policy for January 2016. Pressure has been mounting on the bank to hike rates and reduce import consumption. – ENDS-
