Tea auctions this week in Colombo recorded a marginally lower quantity totaling 6.8 million kg compared to last week.
The ex-estate offerings were reportedly a small selection of improved teas from the Western slopes and Best Western where quality was improved were firm and irregularly dearer, the tea auction report issued by Forbes and Walkers stated.
Gains of Rs.10-20 kg were also seen in clean leaf coloury BOP/BOPFs where quality had improved.
CTCs BP1s continued strong and fetched high prices but high and mid grown PF1s were irregular and fell by upto Rs.30 per kg for poor leaf/thin liquoring teas. Corresponding low grown types were reported to have sold well.
There was a slight decline indicated in the low grown leafy and tippy catalogues but there was said to have been fair demand.
In the Premium catalogue, there was a good demand and prices were generally firm to dearer, it was stated.(SD)
