Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka rose 14.6 per cent to 1.5 million by the end of August 2016, government figures revealed on Tuesday.
Indian arrivals were virtually unchanged in August 2016 at 27,241 from 27,233 in the same 2015 month surprising many industry observers. Arrivals from the country’s immediate neighbour have always seen growth pushing it to the top source market for Sri Lanka for many years now.
Number two market, China continued to show growth with a rise of 29.2 per cent by the end of August 2016 to 213,103. Arrivals in July from China were up 7.8 per cent to 22,111. - ENDS -
