Ex-MBSL chief Ruwan Gallage has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Lankaputhra Bank with effect December 30, 2016.
He assumed office on Friday and has met the staff as well, informed sources said.
Former Chairman of the bank Lasantha Gunawardena has filed a Fundamental Rights case in the Supreme Court against the Central Bank and is seeking reinstatement.
The Central Bank had directed that Mr. Goonewardena should be removed from his post since March 2016 but he continued to maintain his position until September when an acting Chairman was appointed by the Board of Directors due to certain issues with the appointment. The banking regulator said he was not ‘fit and proper’ to hold the position. (SD)
