All in the cards: The NPP’s destiny

Features

By Gehan A. Cooray

What some people refer to as Democracy in mundane terms, I describe as Destiny in more esoteric terms.

Most readers probably know me as an operatic singer, actor and independent filmmaker based in the U.S, who has been personal friends with our former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his sui generis wife Prof. Maithree Wickermesinghe for over a decade. What many don’t know is that I am also what my Godmother calls a “mystic”, and what Kumar De Silva once introduced as a “keen spiritualist”, and having cultivated a facility with Tarot cards, and a knowledge of astrology and numerology over the years, I was able to predict the National People’s Power coalition’s rise to power as far back as February this year.

My astrological insights

What I present here is my thoroughly objective analysis of the events that have just transpired in a cosmic, metaphysical context that transcends the nuts and bolts and mere politics. “As above, so below” is one of the maxims of astrology, to begin with, and the insights I am about to share are through the framework of Sidereal Astrology (practised in South Asia) and not the Tropical Astrology that is popular in the West. Tropical Astrology dates everything according to the four seasons, while Sidereal Astrology charts everything against the backdrop of the literal constellations in the sky (which are synonymous with the zodiac signs).

Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted the Presidency of Sri Lanka on the 13th of July 2022, exactly one day after the planet Saturn “went retrograde” into the constellation of Capricorn. A simple Google search will verify everything that I’m outlining here. However, Saturn is currently in the constellation of Aquarius, which heralds a major, revolutionary change and a complete paradigm shift!

Saturn is the planet of government and regimes, among other things. While the Capricorn zodiac sign is all about hard individual work and diligent solo achievement - thus rewarding a gentleman like Ranil Wickremesinghe (whether one likes him or not) when Saturn re-entered Capricorn on the 12th of July 2022 - the Aquarius zodiac sign is all about the collective spirit and the communal zeitgeist, which paves the way for the National People’s Power coalition (whether one likes them or not).

Saturn is in retrograde motion as we speak, just as it was when Ranil Wickremesinghe became President in 2022 (albeit in a different zodiac sign), which means the planet retraces its steps (from the perspective of humans on earth observing the sky), making people rethink any current administration and overwhelmingly revisit a different option. Sri Lanka is now revisiting Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the same way Ranil Wickremesinghe was revisited and made President in 2022 despite not securing the presidency in the past, I knew that ranking third in the 2019 Presidential Elections was not going to prevent Mr. AKD from ascending to the Presidency in 2024 - no matter how quick some were to bring up his electoral percentages five years ago. The cosmos is always in control!

My numerological insights

Moving onto numerology, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s life path number - also known in common parlance as the "lucky number" - is Five. This is determined by adding up all the digits of a person's date of birth, and reducing those digits to a single digit. In President Dissanayake’s case, not only is 5 his auspicious number, but he is currently 55 years of age, which essentially gives him a major double boost of numerological energy that the other Presidential candidates were bereft of this year. Quantum physicists know that everything in the universe carries a vibrational energy, and the vibrations of numbers were established as far back as the days of the Chaldeans.

Double digits always amplify the power and vibration of the single digit, needless to say, so for Anura Kumara Dissanayake to run for President at the age of 55 when 5 is the very life path number (or “lucky number”) that unlocks his destiny is as good as the cosmos unlocking the presidency for him this year! This was his moment. This is the very pinnacle of his life! The culmination of what he was born to do.

Those who were surprised at the outcome of the Presidential election ought to know, at this stage of my article, that everything including the sphere of politics is at the mercy of overarching, overriding cosmic energies. Humans are mere peons in this vast universe, despite all narcissistic and solipsistic delusions to the contrary, and I hope readers understand that there are forces far greater than their own self-determination that determine and govern what transpires in this world.

Call it destiny. Call it fate. Call it fatalism. Call it the inevitable, but in the words of one of my favourite songs from the stage version of The Sound of Music - “There is no way to stop it!” It’s a pity this song was cut from the film version, as it refers to the constellations and planets very vividly, but perhaps it was too esoteric for a mass audience. As an operatic singer, I have also played the lead baritone role in Bizet’s perennial opera Carmen, which famously features Tarot cards and shines a spotlight on the perfect predictive powers of the Tarot.

My Tarot card insights

No other presidential party or candidate this year had Tarot cards as overwhelmingly positive as Mr. AKD and the NPP. In the last reading I did here in New York City at my own desk in the privacy of my own home, well in advance of the elections, now Prime Minister Harini Amasuriya emerged as the “Queen of Wands” while President Dissanayake emerged as the “King of Wands” - two of the most powerful and benign personal cards in the Tarot deck.

They are also supported by the Major Arcana ‘Trump Cards’ of “The Empress”, “The Sun” and “Justice” - which means I could expect these epic themes and energies to resonate through the leadership of the National People’s Power coalition. The masculine and feminine forces were perfectly balanced in the Tarot spread, with the “Ace of Swords” symbolising great mental acuity, while the Wands symbolise new beginnings, zestful energy and flourishing.

As someone who has supported former President Ranil Wickremesinghe for one and a half decades, I was very relieved to discover from the Tarot cards that Mr. Wickremesinghe does not need the Presidency to live a joyful and jubilant life going forward! He has handed over the administration of the country to a new team with gentlemanly graciousness, and it is now time for all Sri Lankans around the world to put an end to partisan hostilities and support a regime that is honourable by every cosmic and mystic indication I’ve gleaned.
