Celebrating Handloom Day, the well-known handloom company Selyn is offering masterclasses with their expert weavers this weekend.

The masterclasses will be at Selyn's outlet on Fife Road on August 10th and 11th. Participants will get a chance to try their hand at plain weaving and learn about the various patterns used at Selyn, such as Plain, Dumbara, Twill, Honeycomb, Huckback, and different pallu designs.
Sessions will be from 10 a.m to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m to 3 p.m. The cost per participant is Rs. 2000.

Young musicians Johann Peiris and Sulara Nanayakkara will present a piano and violin recital on August 13 at the Lionel Wendt auditorium as a much-needed fundraiser for the Prithipura Home.The wide-ranging programme includes works from Mendelssohn to Hindemith, the Armenian composer Komitas to Paganini.

The Prithipura Home Wattala serves 60 differently abled children and adults is facing difficult circumstances and the two musicians are performing to raise funds for its upkeep.

Hema Shironi’s latest exhibition “Families ‘Not’ in the List” opens at the Saskia Fernando Gallery on August 15th  and will continue until September 5th . Through her work entwining fabric and embroidery, the artist sheds light on the issues of identity that are experienced particularly by historically excluded communities. Her work delves into the home as both a sanctuary and a space of loss, evolving into a broader narrative of her personal journey and the experiences of the community.

Kandy’s Kolam Studios come to Colombo this week with “Razzmatazz!” a show of popular Broadway hits throughout the ages. With songs from renowned musicals such as the Sound of Music, West Side Story, Hamilton and the Greatest Showman to classic Disney songs, there is something special for everyone. 

Launched with the aim of helping young students with drama, the Kolam team began conducting a workshops and sessions teaching Kandy schoolgoers the various aspects of drama to hone their theatrical talents. 
“Razzmatazz!” by Kolam Studios is on August 14 from 7.30 p.m. at the Lionel Wendt theatre.
