Honouring Muslim women achievers

To mark International Women's Day on 8th March, the All Ceylon Muslim Women's Association is initiating a Biennial Awards Ceremony to be held on Sunday,  March 3, 2024.

Celebrating its 71st anniversary, the All Ceylon Muslim Women's Association plans to highlight the notable achievements of Muslim women and those in the Malay,  Borah and Memon communities.

The event seeks to celebrate the notable achievement of Muslim women who have been a source of inspiration and service to the community at large. In initiating a Biennial Awards Ceremony, it is proposed to raise awareness of inspirational women for their willingness to rise to the occasion, demonstrate exemplary drive and put forth phenomenal efforts to better the community. It is proposed to recognise the achievement of Muslim women in the following fields:

PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS:

2. Healthcare
3. Banking & Finance
4. Education
5. Media, including Print & Digital
6. Hospitality & Tourism
7. STEM

ART & CULTURE EXCELLENCE AWARD

TWO LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS FOR WOMEN OF OTHER COMMUNITIES

The event is being organized to raise funds for the Denara Vocational Training Institute, a subsidiary of the ACMW, to provide scholarships for the under-privileged young Muslim women attending classes. Part proceeds will be held in a Trust Fund for continuing the Biennial Awards night celebrating Women of Achievement.

The keynote speaker at the event will be Deshamanya Radhika Coomaraswamy who served as the Under Secretary General of the United Nations, Special Representative for Children in armed conflict.
