The Grand Prix Folklore A’capella category of the Asian Choir Games 2017 saw interesting performances this Tuesday (October 24), and viewers were left enthralled by the vibrance of the different pieces performed by the choirs.
The choirs performed well choreographed dances which brought out the cultural element of the event. Each song seemed to tell a story, and through the actions of the dance and the emotion in the voices, the story was conveyed even if the words could not be understood.
The Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Atma Jaya Yogy Choir wore costumes which indicated that they were tribal warriors, with colourful gold and red outfits, complete with black tribal markings. Their songs had lots of diversity, with alternating between slow and fast music, with lively dance to match. The dance moves interpreted the fierceness of
the tribe, love, loss and many other emotions in between. The performance came to a climatic finish with a choir member dressed in a black cape (seemingly depicting an evilspirit), who attacked the tribe, leading to their downfall.
The Cantus Firmus Sanata Dharma University also had an interesting performance which had a great tempo and interesting variations in tone.. Dressed in their red, white and black costumes, the choir performed well with lively movements to song. Overall, the performances grabbed everyone’s attention with their diversity and the variations in
colour and actions which added to the event.
The Tonal Choir and the PSM Vocalista Paradissio UPN Veteran Yogayakarta also performed for this category.
