The internationally acclaimed comedian Russell Peters will perform live in Sri Lanka on February 25 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre Colombo.

This Canadian comedian who understates himself by saying he’s ‘almost famous’ has chosen Sri Lanka as a destination on his current world tour. His ability to have the audience in roaring bouts of laughter is legendary and amply demonstrated by his sell-out performances in Toronto’s Air Canada Center, London and Australia, and other shows that attracted massive crowds in US, New Zealand, Ireland, Afghanistan, South Africa, India, Jordan, Denmark, Singapore and many other countries.

A prime influence in the life of this comedian was George Carin who advised him to take to the stage. His big break came when his 2004 performance on a Canadian TV comedy show was uploaded to You Tube and went viral making him an overnight sensation.

The success of Russell Peters’ comic art lies in his ability to cleverly deliver humour to highlight ethnic, class and cultural stereotypes. He uses his own identity growing up in an Indian family and models on the accents of various ethnic groups to highlight their cultural individuality and poke innocuous fun at them. He once told an audience in San Francisco: “I don’t make stereotypes, I just see them.”

Fairway Holdings have partnered AKG Events and Wizcraft to present this top notch entertainer to Sri Lankan audiences. This follows the success of their sell-out concert by award winning artist Kenny G in November last year. Fairway Holdings is the principal sponsor of the Chamber Music Society of Colombo and Soundarie David’s Soul Sounds choir.
