A petition was signed today at Matara with the initiative of the Graduate Teacher-Student National Centre against the pruning of the external degree intake by the government.
The student intake for the external degree has been temporarily stopped by the University Grants Commission.
The government introduced a new circular stating that the number of external student should be decreased till it’s twice the amount of internal intake of the University.
Therefore, accordingly, only 600 external applications will be accepted to the University of Ruhuna this year as its internal intake is 300 students whereas previously, around 600 external students enrolled for the degree at the Ruhuna University.
Moreover, the new circular states that students cannot apply for the external degree while being employed.
