Three foreign companies have been awarded tenders to provide 100 megawatts (MW) of additional electricity for the next six months.
These tenders were awarded following approval by the cabinet procurement committee.
Accordingly, Aggreko International Project Ltd. has won the bid to provide 24 MW of power to the Pallekele Grid Substation (GS) and 10 MW to the Galle GS. A kilowatt of power will be purchased at Rs 30.20 from this US-based company.
Further, UAE-based Alternative Solution Global FZE has been awarded the tender to supply 10 MW of power to the Mahiyangana GS at a cost of Rs 30.58 per kilowatt. This company will also provide 08 MW of power to the Polonnaruwa Grid at a cost of Rs 30.63 per unit.
Meanwhile, V Power Holdings Ltd., a Hong-Kong based company has been offered the bid to supply 24 MW of electricity to the Hambantota Grid at Rs 28.43 a unit. The Hong Kong based entity would also supply 24 MW to the Horana GS at a cost of Rs 28.70 per unit.
A proposal to this effect was put forward before cabinet by Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake yesterday (Apr 09).
