Around 12,000 individuals have been arrested over narcotic offences during a month-long narcotic eradication campaign which ended this month, police said.
These arrests had been made by the Police Narcotics Bureau, Special Task Force, and the Police between September 9 and October 9, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
During this campaign, police had seized 67.5 kilos of heroin, 43.2 grams of cocaine, 943.1 kilos of both cannabis and kerala cannabis, 29,500 cigarette sticks, and 5681 narcotic pills.
The highest number of cases had been filed for those apprehended with cannabis and kerala cannabis, with figures standing at around 7200. Further,, some 4300 heroin related cases, and 500 cases relating to illegal cigarettes had been filed by the police.
