Ten persons have been killed in road traffic accidents during the last 24 hours increasing this year’s fatalities to 1266, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today (14).
He said there is an increasing trend in road traffic accidents following the lifting of travel restrictions. This year has also seen approximately 7100 persons being injured from road accidents.
Last year 2144 persons died from road traffic accidents and 2839 persons have died in the year 2019.
“Special traffic operations are taking place to apprehend those involved in excessive speeding, drunk driving,” DIG Ajith Rohana said.
