A total of 13 foreign nationals were taken into custody yesterday for violating immigration laws during their stay in the country, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
An Iraqi national was taken into custody at around 5:50 pm yesterday in Navagamuwa after he was caught without a valid visa. The 56-year old suspect is due to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrates Court today.
Meanwhile, six Nigerian nationals were also taken into custody without a valid visa at the same time in Mount Lavinia, police said. The suspects have been identified as those between the ages of 26 - 35. They will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate today.
An 20-year old Indian national too was arrested in Mount Lavinia without a valid visa, police said adding that the suspect will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrates court today.
In addition, a Thailand national was arrested in Dehiwela last afternoon. Dehiwela police acting upon a tip-off had discovered the 38-year old suspect without a valid visa. The suspect is to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrates court today, police said.
Four other Nigerian nationals were also apprehended in Welikada yesterday for staying in the country without a valid visa.
Mount Lavinia police who were acting upon a tip-off had arrested the suspects who were between the ages of 28 - 30. The suspects will be produced before the Colombo Hultsdorf Magistrates Court today.
