A total of 136 persons who had attended a wedding in Ambanpola on January 21 have so far tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities confirmed.
The infected patients also include both the bride and groom, they further confirmed.
The bride is a resident of Udangawa, Ambanpola while the groom is a resident of Minuwangoda.
The homecoming after the wedding had been held in Minuwangoda and health authorities say that nearly 260 persons had been in attendance at both events.
Health authorities had initially subjected 10 of the guests who attended the wedding to rapid antigen tests after learning that guests were complaining of various ailments. All 10 had tested positive for COVID-19.
They subsequently subjected about 260 persons who attended the wedding to tests and it was here that 136 of the guests, including the bride and groom, tested positive.
Health authorities added that 40 of the guests who were from around Ambanpola were among the infected while 96 persons from the groom's side had also tested positive.
