The number of Sri Lankans infected by the coronavirus has increased to 18 with some 4,000 persons who arrived from overseas being monitored for the virus.
On Sunday with seven persons who returned from Italy being confirmed that they were infected with the virus the total number infected has risen to 18. All of them were from the quarantine centre in Kandakadu in Welikanda.
They were immediately transferred to the Polonnaruwa hospital.
Accordingly 12 person who returned from Italy are among the18 patients infected.
On Sunday a person who had returned from Germany was confirmed to be infected with coronavirus and admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.
The first local case to be identified was a 52-year-old tour guide who is still receiving treatment at the IDH hospital. His son too had been admitted to hospital, but has been found to be negative for the virus.
