The Government has ordered 18 million doses of two different COVID-19 vaccines, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Dr Channa Jayasumana told Times Online.
He noted that Sri Lanka had initially ordered 7 million doses of the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine. However, the Government subsequently ordered a further 6 million doses of the vaccine, he added, making it 13 million doses in all. The first batch of the Sputnik V vaccine is expected to be delivered in May, the State Minister added.
Meanwhile the Government has also ordered 5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Dr Jayasumana stated that the new orders will help health authorities to expand the Government's vaccination drive.
