Nearly 200 families in the Ja-Ela area have been severely affected after torrential rains destroyed about 300 acres of paddy fields filled with newly cultivated paddy, Ja Ela Agrarian Services Officer Udaya Rangajeewa stated.
The rains destroyed the paddy fields barely three weeks after the paddy fields were cultivated. The Agrarian Services Department is taking measures to provide relief for the affected farmer families, Mr Rangajeewa stressed.
