President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the present year is definitely the year to form a new government.
"The people can decide based on their conscience as to whether the government should be vested with patriotic people or individuals who love the country" he said.
He made these remarks while addressing the 22nd anniversary of the Peoples United Front yesterday (Feb 17).
The President emphasised that a government which is favourable for the country is of utmost importance for the future.
Mr. Sirisena also called on all the people who love the country to come forward and join hands to form a new national alliance that would ease the debt burden of the country and develop the country's economy.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
