A 25-year old suspect has been sentenced to death over the possession of heroin by the Colombo High Court today (Jul 18).
The suspect had been arrested with just over 10 grams of heroin in 2016, during a raid carried out by officers attached to the Colombo (North) Police Organised Crimes Preventive Division.
High Court Judge Shashi Mahendran had imposed the death sentence saying the charges against the suspect have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Attorney General had filed a case against the suspect following which a lengthy hearing persued.
