At least 261 garment workers tested positive for COVID-19 today at a garment factory in Puthukudiyiruppu Mulliathivu, office of the Medical Officer of Health in Mullaithivu said.
After a couple of individuals working at the factory tested positive earlier this week, over 1500 workers were subjected to PCR test and among them, 261 persons tested positive today. Another phase of PCR tests to be carried out tomorrow for the rest of the staff.
Families of the workers, those who come into contact with the infected persons are currently being identified and directed for self-quarantine at their respective residences.
Meanwhile National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) announced that Grama Sevaka divisions of Mullaitivu, Pudukuduirippu, and Mulliyawalai Police areas in the district will be isolated from 11 PM tonight (Monday) until further notice.
