264,000 COVID vaccine doses to arrive tomorrow

Elderly population from high-risk areas will be prioritized in the next vaccine drive from the first shipment of 264,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine reaching the country on March 7, the Health Ministry said.

The vaccine procured by UNICEF will be the first allocation of the 1.44 million doses of COVID-1 vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

The first shipment will be delivered through UNICEF via Emirates sky cargo.

On Friday, an 84 year old from Rajagiriya, an 81 year old from Colombo 10, a 67 year old from Colombo 08 and a 39 year old from Atala, Kegalle died from COVID pneumonia and health conditions such as kidney issues, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart ailments aggravated due to the virus. The death toll from the virus increased to 493.
