Naval personnel attached to Therapuththa located in Silawathurai in the North Western Naval Command arrested 29 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using unlawful fishing gear in the sea area of Silawathurai yesterday, Navy said.
During the arrest; 6 dinghies, 6 fishing nets, 5 diving masks, 10 pairs of diving fins and a GPS unit were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons and belongings were handed over to the Directorate of Fisheries, Mannar for further investigations.
