A 30 feet long gray whale has been washed ashore in Kayts, Jaffna during early hours today. Local officials attached to the Fisheries Department are in the process of determining the cause for the death of the whale.
Officials of the Department of Wildlife also joined with fisheries officials to carry out further investigations over the death of the whale.
Meanwhile, a sea turtle was washed shore today in Vankalai, Mannar, local fishermen said while stressing that this is the second incident of a sea turtle washed over in recent weeks after the X-press pearl caught on fire near Colombo harbour and sank with containers on board consist of nurdles, acid substances and oil.
