The Health Ministry announced today that 50 Ayurvedic hospitals across the country will be converted into COVID-19 treatment centres in order to meet the increasing demand of medical assistance for COVID-19 patients.
The decision was taken following the instructions by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as steps are underway to increase the number of hospital beds to treat patients.
With the conversion of Ayurveda hospitals into COVID-19 wards, the number of medical beds would be increased to 3500, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniyarachchi noted.
