The 69th anniversary celebrations of the UNP party at the Sirikothaheadquarters was held yesterday. SLFP Chairman and President Maithripala Sirisena was the Chief Guest.
The event marked a milestone as it was the first time in post independence history that a Chairman of a main rival party was invited as the Chief Guest for a UNP anniversary convention. The Prime Minister pledged that he would keep to the promise to build a new country within 60 months by making rapid progress.
“Let us work out our plan. Our success means the success of the country. Both the President and I take the responsibility to rebuild the country and create a brighter future for the people," Mr. Wickremesinghe was quoted as saying.
