70th Session of UNGA begins, President to meet Indian premier today

The 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) commenced today  at the UN Headquarters in New York. Inaugurating the session for 2015, the summit on Sustainable Development was begun with the key note address by the Pope Francis. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, Presidents of the two host countries as well as representatives of civil societies will address the summit on Sustainable Development – 2015 today. The summit on Sustainable Development – 2015 which commenced parallel to the 70th Session of the UNGA will be held till September 28. President Maithripala Sirisena will address this summit. Leaders of 150 states out of 198 member countries of UN are participating in this Sustainable Development summit – 2015. President Sirisena will have a special meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He also will have bilateral talks with the President of ICRC, Mr. Peter Maurer and the President of Switzerland Mr. Didier Burkhalter. The President will participate in a dinner offered by the President of South Africa Mr. Jacob Zuma.
