The Russian Embassy in Colombo celebrated the ‘80th Victory Day’ of the Second World War, at the Russian Cultural Section on Monday, 5th May, 2025.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha was the Chief Guests of the commemoration ceremony.
Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka and Maldives-Levan Dzhagaryan and spouse of the Ambassador, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Sri Lanka and Maldives-Andres Marcelo Gonzalez, Maria Popova- Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka and Head of the Russian House in Colombo, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, General Secretary of the SLRFS and Chairman of the Centre of Russian geographical society in Colombo, Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe, additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Former President of the ASLGSC were among the distinguished guests at the ceremony.
Meanwhile in Moscow, 80th Anniversary Victory Day was celebrated today, 9th May, 2025 with a large military display on Red Square, as President Vladimir Putin welcomed a lineup of world leaders. Nearly 30 world leaders attended the celebrations in Moscow, which mark the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
The Russian Embassy in Colombo and the Russian House unveiled a plaque at the public library Colombo last week in honour of the 80th Anniversary of Victory Day. (SW).
