The Ministry of Law and Order has decided to set up a new system to provide fuel for police on a priority basis at fuel stations.
A senior official of the Ministry said that the Ministry had set up a system where the police would acquire the first 200 liters of fuel delivered to any fuel station.
The official elaborated that the system was created to stop police officers coming to fuel station and obtaining fuel while people who received tokens and stayed in queens are purchasing fuel.
Accordingly , the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation as well as fuel station owners were instructed that police would obtain first 200 liters form a designated fuel station when a new bowser arrives.
The police are instructed to use barrels to store and transport fuel and distribute among police vehicles at their respective police stations.
The system is likely to draw protests from the public who have been waiting in queues for days.
