Most places in the island will experience showers or thundershowers after 1:00 pm today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Heavy downpours above 100mm are due at a few places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-central Provinces along with Mannar, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu Districts. Moderately heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is possible elsewhere.
Rains are most likely in Northern and Eastern Provinces during the morning hours. Certain parts in Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces will meet misty mornings.
In the meantime, showers or thundershowers are on the cards in the sea areas off shores extending from Colombo to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam. Additionally, several places in the sea areas around the island will witness showers or thundershowers particularly during the day or night.
Winds will be South-easterly and will strike at 20-30 KMPH.
Moreover, the marine areas surrounding the island are expected to tone down although strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are foreseen during thunderstorms transiently.
