Film directors and artistes today appealed to the President to grant a Presidential pardon to actor Ranjan Ramanayake who is currently serving a four-year prison term.
Actor Jeewan Kumaratunga, Film director Udayakantha Warnakulasuriya and actress Dilhani Ashokamala were among those who addressed a press conference.
Mr Kumaratunga called on the President to consider the release of Mr Ramanayake considering the contribution he has made to the film industry.
Mr Warnakulasuriya said that it was painful to think of the plight of the actor who is languishing in jail.
Ms Ashokamala said that Mr Ramanayake has already spent 200 days in jail and the only way he can comeout out of it is a presidential pardon.
