Over 17, 000 acres of paddy lands in the Mannar District are in danger of being destroyed owing to heavy rain and floods that have affected the district.
Mannar District Agrarian Development Department Assistant Commissioner A. Merinkumar stated that 17, 167 acres of paddy lands in the district that have been cultivated for the 2021 Maha Season are in danger of being completely destroyed due to the prevailing adverse weather.
He added that the situation in the district is worsening with continued rains and said due to the increasing flood situation, even more paddy lands are in danger of being flooded and destroyed.
