Adverse weather conditions have affected several provinces across the island, as the Meteorology Department issues warnings.

Rough seas and strong winds of up to 60-70kmph are expected off the coats extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

A food warning has been issued to low-lying areas in the vicinity of the Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya located in the Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana and Wattala Divisional secretariats within the next 48 hours by the Irrigation Department.

Traffic was reported along the Colombo-Avissawella road due to floods affecting the road extending from the Aswatta junction to the Hingurala junction, the police said.

Furthermore, the Road Development Authority announced the temporary closure of the Welipenna interchange of the Southern Expressway due to a minor flooding.

At present, the water level on the Mathugama - Aluthgama road is approximately 4.5 feet high. Residents in the area say that if the rain continues, this area will remain submerged.
