The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory predicting extreme downpours across many parts of the island from tonight (15).
Accordingly, the sea areas off shores extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota will experience showers or thundershowers.
The public is urged to take preventives to reduce harm that can be caused by heavy winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
Fishing and naval communities were also sent word not to venture into deep and shallow sea areas and were further requested to be on alert on future forecasts released by the Met. Department.
Thundershowers can bring strong gusts of winds up to 60-70 KMPH transiently.
Turbulent waters are foreseen occasionally in marine areas extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota during thunderstorms.
