Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has ordered the blacklisting of a company that supplied liquid organic fertilizer packed in plastic bottles not suitable.
The directive was given to the National Fertilizer Secretariat to blacklist the company which was involved in the manufacture of organic fertilizer.
According to the recommendations of the National Fertilizer Secretariat, packaging of liquid organic fertilizer in plastic bottles similar to water bottles is strictly prohibited as various pathogens can occur in such bottles.
The Minister also has ordered to hold back any payments due to the Company.
Minister Amaraweera also has ordered another investigation about a complaint from farmers about another company providing organic fertilizer with a high concentration of sand,
The government has permitted companies to provide organic fertilizer through Farmers’ Service centres and the government provides a subsidy upto Rs 20,000 for the purchases.
However, the National Fertilizer Secretariat will test three organic fertilizer samples of each product and if the fertilizer is of inferior quality the company will be blacklisted.
