An accomplice of an underworld mobster, Ganemulla Sanjeewa was arrested while transporting drugs, Police Special Task Force (STF) said today.
The arrested 36 year old suspect was identified as Udeshika Viduranga alias “Vidda” who is also wanted for three murders and unlawful activities. The suspect was also identified as a resident in Wellampitiya
The arrest was made near the Kadawatha bus stop, after the police STF received a tip off that the suspect and a group of co conspirators were transporting drugs via a van. The STF had detected 500g and 24 mg of heroin while they inspected the van.
The STF also found that the 23 year old driver of the van possessed another 15g and 300 mg of heroin. The driver of the van who is also a resident of Wellampitiya was arrested and handed over to Kadawatha Police along with the van. Further investigations are held by the Kadawatha police.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
