Another COVID-19-related death has been recorded in Vavuniya base hospital yesterday, according to hospital sources. The victim is identified as a 55-year-old individual who was receiving treatment for pre-existing health issues at the hospital.
The death was confirmed following antigen test carried out following the death.
Earlier, commenting on the emergence of the new Covid variant JN.1 reported from India, Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana assured that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation.
As of now, no cases have been reported from the sample tests conducted. Despite this, the Minister urged the public to adhere to the health practices established during the previous Covid season.
