Another stock of eggs shipped in from India reached Sri Lanka last night (April 04), the State Trading Corporation (STC) said.
STC Chairman Asiri Walisundara said Sri Lanka has imported a total of 4 million eggs up to now.
The highly anticipated first stock of 2 million imported eggs landed up the island on March 23 whilst the second shipment carrying 1 million eggs arrived four days ago.
Approval for the second shipment is pending from the Animal Production and Health Department.
Specimens from the third egg batch, which reached the island last night, will be forwarded to the laboratories for further testing later in the day, Mr. Walisundara stated.
The imported eggs have received approval to be sold for the general public and they are only distributed among bakery product manufacturers.
