Army troops in Jaffna launched a sterilization programme recently in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital compound, Bazaar Street and surrounding areas, adjacent to the township as a precautionary measure following the resurgence of the threat of COVID-19 epidemic.
The programme was in place under the directives of Jaffna Security Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Priyantha Perera.
Over the recent weeks, dozens tested positive for COVID-19 in Jaffna city posing a threat of further spread of the virus in the region, a regional Health department official warned.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
