State Minister of Urban Development and Housing Arundhika Fernando today announced that he would serve as an independent MP from today.
He said he was calling President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to unite inorder to defeat the NPP gaining power.
Mr. Fernando highlighted the tragic loss of over 60,000 young lives during the 1971 and 1989 rebellions, particularly emphasizing the devastation of the 1989 uprising. He drew a parallel to the current situation, where he believes social media is corrupting the minds of today’s youth.
Mr. Fernando expressed concern over potential threats to the nation's stability, such as large-scale protests or attacks on the parliament.
He vowed to collaborate with any willing individuals to prevent such destructive outcomes and uphold democracy, regardless of the electoral results.
