An attempt to get away with the safe of a Samurdhi bank in Palaviya, Puttalam has failed forcing robbers to abandon their operation and flee the place, Police said today.
The safe with cash amounting to Rs half a million had been removed from the bank through the window and taken it out of the building.
They had made an attempt to force open the safe, but failed in their attempt.
Police believe they had been forced to abandon their attempt to open it or take it way in fear of being detected and half it behind.
The Police later arrived at the scene and recovered the safe.
