The price of bread and bakery products will be increased by Rs 20 and 10 respectively with effect from midnight, the President of the Bakery owners Association, N.K Jayawardena told Timesonline.
“The flour importers such as Prima have increased the prices of a kilo of flour by Rs 34. We now spend Rs 20,500 on an industrial gas cylinder used to fuel our ovens. Therefore we were forced to go for this price increase,” he said.
“The companies are aware that there is no proper rule during these days, as mass protests are taking place for the president and the cabinet to resign and there is no one to look into such matters. Therefore companies capitalize on the opportunity and increase prices according to their will.”
