The President of the Bakery owners Association, N.K Jayawardena told the Times online that the shortage of flour has driven flour prices high therefore they are forced to resort to increase of bakery product prices.
He said that they have observed shortages in the markets as well as importing companies. Therefore had requested support from the trade ministry.
Mr Jayawardena added that the ministry too had pointed out that the government too is unable to make imports due to shortage of foreign currency.
He explained that he is to meet the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today afternoon to request him to raise their issues at the parliament.
“If the issue is to remain the price of a loaf of bread to Rs 300” he said
