The bodies of two elephants who had been killed have been recovered this morning (23).
The body of an elephant estimated to be about 12 years of age was found in a cultivation located behind a guest house by officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) in Inamaluwa, Sigiriya. The animal had been electrocuted by an illegal electric fence built surrounding the cultivation.
Meanwhile, an elephant aged about 40 years of age was killed after being struck by the Batticaloa-Colombo goods train near Minneriya. The body was recovered this morning along the Batticaloa railway line. (PCK)
