An iron buoy weighing more than 250 kilos was found floating on the Moragolla beach in Aluthgama today (10), Police said.
A group of fishermen first spotted the buoy floating on the beach between the Beruwela lighthouse and the Moragolla coral reef, and after informing the police, they took action to retrieve the buoy which is suspected to be a belonging to X-Press Pearl ship destroyed off the Colombo Port.
The detection was made some 95 km away from the location where the ship was destroyed.
After recovering the buoy, the fisheries inspectors identified it to be one that contained technical equipment. The officers and the police stated that they would hand over the buoy to NARA.
