A bus Conductor of a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) long distance service bus coming from Monaragala to Katunayake was stabbed by the Driver following an argument, succumbed to his injuries today 24 January at the Negombo General Hospital, Police said.
The incident had taken place on Monday night at a temple where the bus driver and the conductor were spending the night as their bus was scheduled to head back to Monaragala the following day.
The brawl was worsened after both the Driver and the Conductor discussed politics after they consumed liquor. As heated arguments were shot against each other the driver had smashed a liquor bottle and stabbed in the Conductor’s neck.
The Conductor identified as Wijesinghe Mudiyanselage Anura Pawan Kumara, (38) had lodged a complaint at the Katunayake Police and had admitted himself to the Negombo General Hospital for treatment.
The Police was informed by the hospital that the injured Conductor died while undergoing treatment.
Following that the Driver of the bus indentified as Kodikara Mudiyanselage Sarath Bandara (38) was arrested by the Katunayake police. Further investigations are underway, Police said.
