Buses ordered to use Multimodal Centre at Makumbura

All passenger buses operating on the High Level road are required to pass through the Makumbura Multimodal Centre from tomorrow (March 1) onward.

The Minister of Transport and Highways, Bandula Gunawardena, speaking to a press conference yesterday, announced this decision.

"The Multimodal Centre has been designed with the advice of experts in the field with a purpose of reducing traffic accidents as well", the Minister said.

He said most buses were avoiding the Centre and thereby stopping on the side of the High level road picking up and dropping passengers resulting in accidents and risking the passengers as well.

Taking into consideration many complaints received by the Ministry, Police and the National Transport Commission, it was decided to make it mandatory for buses to pass through the Multimodal Centre, he said.
