The Police Narcotics Division at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested a businessperson illegally carrying cigarettes worth over Forty Million Rupees earlier this morning.
The arrested individual who had engaged in business activities via frequent flights was identified as a 33-year-old resident of Nattandiya.
72 cigarette cartons containing 14,400 of Manchester, Plantium and Mond cigarettes that were manufactured abroad were hidden in the arrested individual’s luggage.
The arrested is eligible to be released on police bail, and and will be presented to the Negombo Magistrate's Court on October 25 along with the seized items.
