An interim order was issued today (12) hindering the Minister of Sports from implementing further measures to revise the Constitution of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) by the Court of Appeal (CA) following a petition filed by the administration of the SLC.
The Court of Appeal was notified of the necessity of a new constitution for the SLC by the Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe in December, 2022.
Accordingly, a 10-member committee of experts led by Justice K.T. Chitrasiri was assigned in February this year through the issuance of a special Gazette notification, aiming at drafting a new constitution.
A group of 12 persons, inclusive of former well-renowned Cricketers Muttiah Muralitharan, Sidath Wettimuny, Micheal Tissera, Retired Supreme Court Judge Saleem Marsoof, President’s Counsel (PC) Dinal Phillips, Dr. Palitha Kohona and Rienzie Wijetilleke of Banking fame has filed a petition in February, 2021 before the CA in search of a reformation to the SLC constitution.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
