The Colombo Magistrate Court has fined Rs.1.3 million from ten traders who sold eggs above maximum retail price (MRP) during the festive season, CAA Chairman Shantha Niriella said.
Nine traders were from Kirulapone, Maradana and Angoda. He said another trader from Wellawatte was fined Rs.500,000 for selling eggs at a higher price.
CAA continues to raid shops violating the maximum retail prices of Rs.48 for a brown egg and Rs.44 for a white egg.
He said expired milk powder worth over Rs. 2.2 million found in Colombo was also ordered to be destroyed by Courts. Expired chocolates and biscuits worth over Rs.200,000 were also ordered to be destroyed.
